The Hospital Broadcasting Association is the trade association for hospital radio in the UK. HBA is its trading name - the full title is the National Association of Hospital Broadcasting Organisations. The HBA represents hospital broadcasting to the outside world - the music industry, the government and the general public. It is run by an executive committee along with regional representatives from around the country. The committee is elected at the AGM in the autumn of each year, There are two conferences each year. The autumn conference is the AGM whilst the spring conference hosts the annual Hospital Radio Awards ceremony currently sponsored by BT - the Oscars of hospital Broadcasting. Each station that is a member benefits from a cheaper insurance deal and exemption from paying royalty licence fees for the music they play (PRS). There are many other benefits of course common to belonging to a trade association. Each station has a representative who goes to regional meetings and passes on HBA related information to the rest of the station. At HRB, that representative is Neil Ogden who finds the interaction with other hospital stations very interesting and very beneficial to the station. He says he really enjoys visiting other stations - a great source of information and ideas. CLICK HERE for the HBA's national web site;
