On Sunday 11 January 2009, HRB counted down the top 80 Most
Requested Artists Ever compiled from requests collected since the station went
on the air in January 1984.
This was the 5th year of the countdown, but this year there
was a twist. As it was the actual 25th birthday, the chart was presented
from opposite sides of the world.
Thanks to a bit of modern technology, Andy McCormick was able
to join in from his home in Auckland New Zealand. He joined regular
presenters, Neil Ogden and Sarah Beattie, and the person who was there at the
very beginning 25 years ago, Steve Fox.
The show went on air at 12 mid-day and the number one was
revealed as Sir Cliff Richard just before 6.
The chart was compiled from over 68,000 requests collected
since January 1984. The chart of 2008 was revealed on New Years Eve with
the number one of the year being Queen. This chart will be used by the
producers of the National Hospital Radio Request Chart to compile the chart for
the UK which can be heard on HRB soon.
