Kestrel FM, Basingstoke's commercial radio station, celebrated
its 9th birthday on 18 May 2007 and went out and about around Basingstoke to
celebrate the day. They ended up at its spiritual home, so called because
it was a team from HRB that had a dream back in the early 1990s to create a full
time commercial radio station for Basingstoke.
After 2 trial stations as Basingstoke Carnival Radio and
another 2 as Kestrel FM, they were awarded the license in September 1997 and
went on air on 18 May 1998. All 4 of the trial stations involved HRB in
some form.
Their Breakfast Show host and HRB's former Thursday evening
host Mark Watson along with Philip Hatto joined Neil Ogden in the studio for a
simulcast to talk about both stations...
