Hospital Radio Basingstoke's new studios at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital have been officially opened in front of over 50 invited guests.

TV presenter Simon Parkin helped former children's ward patient Sophie Hyde and her sister Rebecca cut the ribbon to declare the new £30,000 facility open.  They were announced by Stan Whitcher, the Town Cryer of Alton who has appeared on several HRB outside broadcasts including the gold award winning coverage of Yuletide in Alton 2006.

Sophie was a regular participant on the station's children's ward show G Floor Jukebox during her various stays on G Floor from 2006 until she and her family moved away from the area last August.

Also present was Phil Moon, Chief Executive of the Hospital Broadcasting Association who presented the station with its certificate for being highly commended by the judges in the Station of the Year category at the National Hospital Radio Awards 2009 which were held last weekend in Blackpool.

The event was broadcast live on air on a show that featured interviews with many of those present and also featured Sophie singing a song she wrote herself especially for the day.
