Honorary HRB member Steve Fox joined hospital radio back in 1982 when the station
was known as Chairman Mike's Mini Radio. He was the last voice to be heard
on CMMR in 1983 and the first presenter to be heard on HRB a year later on 11th January 1984.
In about 13 years with the station, Steve held many committee
positions such as Programme Controller, Public Relations Officer and Station
Manager. For much of that time, Steve was co-host of Thursday evenings
along with fellow HRB presenters Lynton Boulton, David Blower and Neale Adams,
but also hosted on many other days as well, and finished his time on HRB,
hosting a Saturday Breakfast Show.
In the early nineties, Steve was one of the team who helped
pioneer commercial radio in Basingstoke, setting up 4 short term stations and
eventually winning the 8 year licence for 107.6 Kestrel FM which went on air in
May 1998.
Steve has presented on several other radio stations including
Alton's Delta FM (when it was known as Wey Valley Radio). He has also
breathed on Radio 1! You can currently hear Steve every weeknight on
Kestrel FM in Basingstoke.
Steve co-hosted HRB's 30th birthday special back in April 2002 and
returned to HRB to guest host a Sunday show in October 2002. Not content with one
guest show, Steve returned on 11 May 2003, the day of the May HRB On Show, so
had to grapple with a few extra technical bits during the live links from the
front of the hospital. That was as well as a guest appearance from the
Iraqi Information Officer (aka HRB's joker Ray Purkiss)!!
Steve's third guest appearance was on 13 January 2004, the 20th
anniversary of the start of HRB. On this occasion, Steve had to cope with
the teething problems of the station's new computer system, which crashed during
his show! One year later in 2005 on HRB's 21st birthday, Steve returned again, this
time on the day that studio 2 was being rebuilt, so he presented his show from
behind a huge pile of CDs and records!
