It was 6 Hours of Fast Moving Festive Fun – and competitions

The official start to HRB's Christmas schedule is traditionally Neil Ogden's Sound of Sunday Big Christmas Show – and this year was no different.

The show was live for 6 hours from 12pm on Sunday 15 December and was soon in full swing with the first guest of the day – Emma Barton from the Hexagon Christmas panto, Jack and Beanstalk.

Then a few minutes later, it was the turn of Colin Baker and Derek Moran from Aladdin at the Anvil Christmas panto to join us.

Over the last 6 years, we've been trying to get as many BBC Saturday morning TV presenters on the show as possible, but now that series is ending and what better way to finish but with the boss of BBC Saturday mornings for nearly 30 years Chris Bellinger.  He took part in the Saturday morning TV quiz and managed 3 out of 5.

After that, there was former athlete Dave Moorcroft talking about Join In, which is helping people get involved in sport as volunteers, building on the huge success of the Games Makers at London 2012.  The Park Champions (the volunteers of 2013) joined in the show later too.

The Christmas Cracker Dash team then went off around the wards and for the next two hours we had lots of cracker pulling, joke telling and instant requests.  During their travels, the team entered patients and staff into our four competitions for the afternoon, one of which, the Sainsbury's Draw was chosen live on at at 3.30.

By 4pm, the team were back in the studio and we chose the winners of the family tickets to the Christmas pantos.  Becky and Alex were the two lucky members of staff who won a family ticket to see the Anvil and Hexagon pantos respectively.  George on F Floor waon a box of chocolates for having the closest guess in our other competition to guess how much it would cost to buy 1 of each of the top 10 toys this Christmas.

After 4,we were joined by the cast of Jack and The Beanstalk at the Corn Exchange in New bury, and then Richard Smith joined in to talk about the A to Z of Christmas and the forthcoming Big Broadcast.

Finally after 5, it was the turn of Katrina from Katrina and the Waves who has two new books out, and then Chrissy Sykes who was talking about the Help For Heroes charity single.

The show ended with its traditional finale.

All in all a very successful afternoon with nearly twice as many people tuned into HRB than any other radio station at the hospital according to our listening figures.  Christmas is well and truly underway at HRB.
