Lottery Funded New Equipment Arrives at HRB

If you ever get to vist HR's studios, you'll see that computers play a huge part in how the station produces its shows, and this week, thanks to the National Lottery, a much needed upgrade is taking place.

The existing system is ten years old and two years ago suffered a major problem when a motherboard failed.  Since then, plans have been ongoing to bring the system up to date and this week that will finally happen.  The money to complete the project was an award by the National Lottery and it will buy updated software along with new computers.

Programme Controller Neil Ogden said "What happened two years ago was a bit of a wake-up call to start thinking about replacing the aging equipment.  Up to that point we hadn't really had any problems but when the motherboard failed and we tried to replace it, it really highlighted how old the rest of the system actually is."

The software is called Myriad and is in use at a large number of commercial, community and hospital radio stations around the world.  It allows live and recorded shows to be produced and scheduled along with the music and all the elements that go to make up a radio station's schedule.

Programmes may be interrupted during the day over two days but the station should be back on the air as normal by Wednesday evening.
