Friday 15 August marked the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.  Victory In Japan came when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, bringing an end to the Second World War after nearly six years of conflict. and came 3 months after VE Day (Victory in Europe).

The occasion was marked on air with a special edition of Music of the war Years with Vernon Pearce and then a national 2 minute silence.

In Basingstoke, the Mayor held a flag raising ceremony to mark the occasion which included testimonies from veterans and family members of those who fought against the Japanese.

HRB was there to record the event and will broadcast it at 10.15am on Saturday 16 August with the video available to watch below at mid-day.
