On 5 April 2009, Stan the (then) Town Crier of Alton joined HRB to help open the new studios.
Along with TV and radio presenter Simon Parkin, and former children’s ward patient Sophie Hyde, with sister Rebecca, he helped cut the ribbon on a project which had been around 5 years in the making.
When Stan was in hospital earlier this year, he mentioned that he had never seen any photos of that day. So something had to be done about that!
Stan is nowadays a co-presenter on Wey Valley Radio’s Sunday evening request show. Wey Valley Radio is the community radio station for Alton and the Sunday evening show plays a very eclectic mix of music – just like hospital radio really.
On Easter Sunday, HRB’s Neil Ogden gatecrashed the show with a clip from that day 15 years ago and presented Stan with some photos of that day, finishing by playing “Radio Radio” by Elvis Costello, the song that was played after Sophie cut the ribbon.
