HRB will be marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a special series of programmes every Sunday evening during May and early June.
Called ‘Music of the War Years’, you’ll be able to journey back in time to listen to such greats of the 1940s as Vera Lynn, The Ink Spots and Ann Shelton, together with the big band sounds of Glenn Miller and Woody Herman.
You’ll also hear listeners’ memories of the dark days of the Blitz, including the miraculous escape by presenter Vernon Pearce’s father from the daytime bombing by the Luftwaffe of the Supermarine Spitfire factory in Southampton in 1940.
So if you’d like to reminisce of the 1940s, tune in on Sundays from the 28th April at 7 o’clock and listen to the Music of the War Years on HRB
