They’ve been entertaining the UK’s hospital’s patients and staff for the last 3 months, utilising the technology of the internet to provide over 20 hospital radio stations with a weekly live show every Sunday lunchtime, but this weekend, The Sunday Social will be coming to an end – for the moment anyway.
It started off as a show intended to involve patients at the heart of it with lots of listener interaction and live from the wards. But after one show where that was able to happen, the stopping of all ward visiting and then lockdown forced a somewhat different show. As hospital radio stations everywhere were forced out of their studios to set up their own studios from home, The Sunday Social provided a live show to help fill the schedules. With features such as The Go To Song, The Wheel of Misfortune and Where’s Oli, Richard Smith and his team of Ruth Stapleton, Jonathan Sawyer and Oliver Stables along with presenters from hospital radio stations around the UK including HRB kept the entertainment going.
But now as the restrictions ease and hospital radio stations are gradually returning to their studios, it seemed like a good time to finish and it will come to an end this Sunday with a game of bingo on the radio!
All the regular features will be there and there will be plenty of time for requests too.
And of course the team are currently planning the 2020 New Year’s Eve Big Broadcast which will run from mid-day on New Year’s Eve live for over 24 hours.
Join Richard and the team for the last Sunday Social of the series Sunday 28 June from mid-day.
