Hospital Radio Basingstoke

Paying Tribute to Steve Wright

On Tuesday we had the sad news that radio legend Steve Wright had passed away at the age of 69.

Steve was one of the country’s best loved broadcasters, enjoying a 40 year career at the BBC.  But it all started for him down the road at Reading where he worked at the station then known as Radio 210.

In 2019, Hospital Radio Reading’s Matthew Rolland recorded an interview with Steve and chatted about his career, his radio shows and played some of his favourite music.  Steve also talked about his memories of Reading and of the Royal Berkshire Hospital where his son was born.  Steve did not do many interviews so this is a relatively rare chat with him.

As HRB’s tribute to Steve, we are broadcasting this special show at 5pm on Sunday (18 February).
