Basingstoke Hospital Opens Its Doors

Fun for all the family at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital Open Day

LOOK around an operating theatre, test out your CPR skills, meet a wide range of clinical experts and much more during an Open Day taking place at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will throw open the doors to the hospital, in Aldermaston Road, Basingstoke, between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, 30 September.

Begin by collecting a map from main reception and choose where you want to go next.

You could take a look around the radiology department and find out about some of the amazing machines experts use to examine patients, or watch a demonstration of the way decontamination tents and suits work.

You could take a tour of the hospital kitchen, finding out how the team produce delicious and nutritious meals for patients, visitors and staff, before getting a taste of the food on offer.

Find out how patients with heart problems are treated by going into one of the special cath labs, or get a behind-the-scenes look at an operating theatre.

Teddy bears and dolls can even receive treatment in the plaster room, with specialists on hand to put their injured limbs in a cast.

There will be a wide range of interactive displays available in the main restaurant, where a jobs fair will also be taking place, giving you the opportunity to see how you could take the next step in your career with the Trust.

You can also find out exactly how well you clean your hands with our infection control team, have your picture taken with a motorbike used to transport blood, learn about the work of the therapies teams, find out how good you are at giving CPR with clinical skills experts, or enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake with the Trust chaplain.

Elizabeth Padmore, chairman of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It promises to be a really good day, with activities suitable for the whole family.

“It’s a great chance for the public to get a look behind the scenes at their local hospital, speak to some of our experts and learn about the great work that goes on in the Trust.

“I’m very much looking forward to it, and I would encourage people to come along and enjoy what should be a really good event.”

The event is free, with parking available at the hospital for those attending.
